Mayra Acosta Embroidery Workshop
About Mayra Acosta Ramírez
Studies in Fashion Design and with a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and a Master's Degree in Education.
Since her studies, she has participated in group exhibitions in Monterrey, Baja California, Mérida, South Africa, and Uruguay with photography and embroidery projects. She has also had solo exhibitions in Puebla, Monterrey, and Argentina.

In documentary photography, she seeks to contribute to the understanding and appreciation of the sociocultural contributions of indigenous communities to Mexico's intangible heritage.
Her photographs have been used by various musicians, including: "El Alma de Lila Downs" DVD by singer Lila Downs (Mexico), concert posters for Gondwana (Chile), and Celso Duarte (Paraguay).
Her work as a textile artist focuses on the exploration of identity, globalization, miscegenation, and "the feminine" through embroidery and manipulated photography.
In 2025, she won the Innovation Award at the "Addy Rosa Cuaik" Yucatan State Embroidery Contest with embroidery techniques that preserve Mayan culture.
She has received grants from CONARTE and the National Ministry of Culture for her documentary projects Nuevo León Multicultural (2013) and Danza Teenek (2014).
The Autonomous University of Nuevo León awarded her the Recognition for Professional Excellence in Visual Arts (2016).
In 2010, she received a grant from CONARTE, Nuevo León, to carry out her project "My Place" in different cities of Argentina.
Mayra is available for private embroidery workshops here at Quinta Kookix, where she will share her tremendous skills and various techniques with you. Your workshop will start just after breakfast, and last for approximately 3 hours with a 15 minute break for refreshments. All materials are included in the cost, and you will be given the materials to complete your project to take away with you. If there is a special project which you have in mind, please let us know to see if it would be possible to arrange.
Embroidery workshops are available on Saturday and Sunday mornings with advance reservations.
